CLARKSON ATHLETE of the WEEK
- February 23, 2009

Swimming
Katherine Gawrys
Senior - Ballston Spa, NY

Katherine Gawrys produced one of the most prodigious three-day runs ever for a Clarkson Swimmer, breaking 10 school records at the UNYSCSA Championships. Of the 19 active events in which a Clarkson swimmer can compete (not including two diving events), Gawrys now has her name etched in the record books in 10 categories. In individual races, she broke records in the 100 and 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle, but then led off relays with record times in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles. Additionally, she swam on record-breaking relays in the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays along with the 400 medley relay. Her new marks in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle were most impressive, as each shattered times that had stood for 20 years or more.

He also finished first in the 1.5k sprint (3:12).

He followed with a power-play tally and an assist in Saturday’s 3-3 tie with Harvard. Guthrie’s four-point weekend put him over the century mark in scoring. The NY Islanders’ draft choice has 101 career points on 37 goals and 64 assists through 133 games. He is second on the Knights in scoring this season with 22 points (11-11), including four goals and two assists over the past four games.
