Knights Swept Out of Liberty League Tournament
May 10, 2008

Rochester, NY - For the second straight day, the Clarkson University Baseball team ran into its opponent's ace as St. Lawrence University starter Steve Bodnar allowed just six hits and a single run in the ninth inning to hold off the Golden Knights 4-1 in the elimination game of the Liberty League Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights closed out the season with a record of 17-20 while St. Lawrence moved to 20-17.

Clarkson righty Greg Chojecki (West Seneca, NY) allowed four runs and five hits in the first two innings, with only two of those runs being earned, before settling down in the next four innings when he held the Saints scoreless. Rick Bittner (Lancaster, NY) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Knights after Chojecki was removed in the seventh.

St. Lawrence got on the scoreboard in the first when an errant throw allowed runners from second and third to score with two outs in the inning. Two more runs came in during the second inning as Andrew Ford drove in one with a single up the middle and Ryan Duff plated another on a sacrifice fly.

Clarkson finally broke Bodnar's spell in the ninth inning when Mike Bresett (Norwood, NY) singled to right. A two-out triple from Matt Holiday (Syracuse, NY) sent Bresett scampering around the bases for the Knights' single run of the tournament. Clarkson was shut out 3-0 in the opener against Rochester.
