SCUBA Diving – PADI Open Water Dive Certification
With the PADI Open Water Diver Certification you can go SCUBA diving virtually anywhere in the world without an instructor (within the limits of your training and skill). Certification is required to get your air tanks filled or to rent specialized SCUBA equipment. This certification never has to be renewed, but there are refresher courses you may take. PADI is the largest dive training organization in the world and is highly regarded as the industry standard in dive training. Clarkson’s dive instructors are PADI certified and work through Bluefin Diving.
The course meets one evening a week for five weeks for 3 hours each session. About one hour is spent in the classroom and about two hours are spent in the pool.
Students must purchase their own fins, booties, mask, snorkel, and weight belt with 6 pounds of weight. All equipment is available locally at a discount for SCUBA students. For more information, checkout the PADI website www.padi.com or email the outdoor recreation director, Shannon Fyrberg at outdoors@clarkson.edu.
