Providence, RI -The Clarkson University Men's Hockey team’s first road trip since mid-October got off to a disappointing start as the Golden Knights lost 4-1 to Brown University at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, RI on Friday. Clarkson, which stands at 5-4-3 overall and at 2-3 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), plays at Harvard on Saturday.
“I did not think we played that badly,” stated Clarkson head coach George Roll. “It was just one of those nights. I actually thought we did some good things. Their goaltender is awfully good and they capitalized on their chances and we didn’t. “
Boasting the second-best power play in the nation, the Bears scored on the man-advantage at 4:27 of the first period to take the lead. The Bears went up 2-0 at 1:15 of the second stanza when a Brown pass behind the Knights’ net deflected in off the back of Clarkson sophomore goaltender Dustin Traylen’s (Kirkland, QUE) leg . Brown extended its lead to 3-0 with a 4-on-3 power-play goal at 13:21 of the middle frame. At 2:39 of the third, Brown took a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore defenseman Chris Brekelmans (London, ONT) spoiled the Bear’s shutout bid with his second goal of the season, an unassisted marker at 13:25.
The Knights outshot Brown 32-27. Traylen posted 23 saves. Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play, while the Bears were 2-of-4 with the man-advantage.
