CLARKSON SURPRISES SKIDMORE IN UCAA OPENER, 1-0

Lauren Arredondo made eight saves in the 1-0 win over Skidmore

Sophomore Wendy Spindler (Ava, NY) scored her first collegiate goal five minutes into the second half to help lift the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) win over Skidmore College Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

At the 49:33 mark, sophomore Kristin Lorence (South Berlin, NY) crossed the ball in front where Spindler headed the ball from about six yards out, hitting it to the top corner out of the reach of Skidmore goaltender Rebecca Johnson.

Lauren Arredondo (Allendale, NJ) recorded her first shutout of the season for Clarkson (2-3-2, 1-0 UCAA) with eight saves, five coming in the second half. Johnson made two saves for the Thoroughbreds (4-2, 0-1 UCAA).

The victory by the Golden Knights was the first in ten all-time meetings against Skidmore College.

The Golden Knights return to UCAA action when they host Union at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Clarkson Field.
