CLARKSON FALLS at UNION

November 6, 2004

The Clarkson University Hockey team suffered a lost weekend in New York’s Capital District over the weekend, losing at Rensselaer, 5-3, on Friday and at Union, 4-1, on Saturday. The Golden Knights, at 2-6 overall and to 0-2 in the ECACHL, return to Potsdam this coming weekend hosting Dartmouth and Vermont in a pair of 7:00 p.m. games at Cheel Arena.

“It is just the way it is going right now,” stated Clarkson head coach George Roll on the Green and Gold’s slow start to the season. “It is similar to last year when we were in that losing streak.”

At Achilles Center in Schenectady on Saturday, Clarkson never led against Union trailing 1-0 after the first and 2-1 after 40 minutes. The Dutchmen, who defeated St. Lawrence, 6-5 on Friday, added two more scores late in the third, including an empty-net goal with seven seconds remaining to earn the three-goal victory.

Senior Chris Blight (Cambridge, ONT) scored the Knights’ lone goal, an unassisted tally 39 seconds into the second.

“I thought our guys played hard tonight and were much more disciplined,” remarked Roll. “We had a lot of chances. It just seems the bounces are not going our way. I know you make your own bounces, but tonight we gave it everything we had. We just didn’t have enough to get the win.”

Clarkson out shot Union 29-24. Junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) made 20 saves. The Knights went 0-5 on the power play, while the Dutchmen were 1-of-6 with the man advantage.
