SKIDMORE ENDS LOSING STREAK AGAINST KNIGHTS WITH 59-46 WIN

February 13, 2004

Potsdam, NY - Lisa Mason scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Skidmore ended a five-game losing streak against the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team with a 59-46 win in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) league game Friday night at Clarkson’s Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-15 overall and 2-9 in the UCAA while Skidmore improved to 8-14 and 3-8 in the conference.

In the first half, the Thoroughbreds held Clarkson to just 5-for-24 from the floor without a 3-pointer for 14 first-half points, while Skidmore was able to shoot above 40 percent for the floor. Meg Anderson scored 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting off the bench to lead Skidmore. Linda Fernandez scored six points and made two steals, while Mickala Henson had six defensive rebounds and made her school-record breaking 40th block, breaking the Golden Knights’ single-season record of 39 set by Kim Brown in the 1992-93 season.

The Golden Knights fell behind by 16 points, 40-24, at the 10:48 mark, but went on an 8-0 run to cut the gap to eight points after a 3-pointer from Bridget Sweeney. The eight-point difference was short-lived, however, as Skidmore’s Lisa Mason quickly responded with a 3-pointer at the other end and the Golden Knights again were down by double-digits, a deficit that would remain for the rest of the game.

Anderson finished with 17 points for Skidmore while Lauren Jones added 10 points. Fernandez ended the game with 10 points and four assists while Sweeney closed out action with 10 points and five rebounds. Henson added eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Golden Knights close the weekend when they host Union at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
