Fort Myers, FL - Junior pitcher J.J. Lorence (Liverpool, NY) threw a six-hit complete game shutout as the Clarkson University Baseball team won its second straight game on Monday with a 4-0 win over Knox College at George Brett Field in the Gene Cusic Classic.
The Golden Knights improved to 2-4 through three days in their spring trip and will return to action on Wednesday following an off day.
Lorence stranded baserunners in each inning, but became more dominant as the game went on, striking out eight hitters in the final four innings. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored Clarkson's second run of the third inning.
The Golden Knights scored three times in the third inning, one coming on a single from junior shortstop Brandon Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) which scored senior outfielder Chad Sydor (Troy, NY). Junior outfielder John Smith (Hermon, NY) followed with a two-run triple which scooted under the glove of the Knox centerfielder as he attempted to make a shoestring catch. Clarkson added another run in the seventh inning when Barcomb scored from third base after a failed pick off attempt at first base.
Barcomb was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and went 4-for-8 on the day. Smith went 3-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Mike Onisk (Baldwinsville, NY) and Sydor also added hits.
