Schenectady, NY – Senior attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) scored four goals and two assists and classmate Jim Lavelle (Hamburg, NY) added four goals as the Clarkson University Men’s Lacrosse team won on the road in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) action on Sunday afternoon, defeating Union College 14-6.
After allowing the opening score to the Dutchmen just 23 seconds into the game, the Golden Knights stormed back with nine straight goals to take a 4-1 advantage after the first quarter and extended their lead to 8-2 at the half. Clarkson outscored Union (3-9, 2-2 UCAA) 6-4 over the final 30 minutes on Frank Bailey Field.
Senior Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) and junior Richard Burritt (Oswego, NY) chipped in two goals and two assists apiece as the Green and Gold snapped a two-game losing skid. Senior Ryan Bodkin (East Amherst, NY) and sophomore Brian Johnson (Newark, NY) tallied one goal each. Freshman Mike McKenna (Camden, DE) recorded three assists.
Peter Gross and Cameron Marks led Union with two goals each.
Junior Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) turned aside 11 of 17 shots to record the win in the Knights’ goal.
Clarkson out shot the Dutchmen 37-26 and controlled groundballs 27-25.
With two games remaining on the schedule, Clarkson stands in a tie for fourth place, along with Union, in the conference with a 2-2 UCAA mark, but the Knights hold the tie breaker over the Dutchmen for the final playoff spot in the upcoming league postseason tournament.
Clarkson, at 5-6 overall, plays at league-leader St. Lawrence this Wednesday in a 3:30 p.m. game at Canton. The Knights close out the regular season on Saturday by hosting sixth-place Skidmore on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game at Hantz Field.
