UNION STIFLES KNIGHTS OFFENSE, CLARKSON FALLS 54-38

January 28, 2005

Potsdam, NY – Junior guard Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) led the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team in scoring for the second straight game, but her sharp shooting wasn’t enough as the Golden Knights fell to Union 54-38 in a Liberty League match up Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-14 overall and 0-6 in conference play while the Dutchmen went to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Liberty League. Clarkson returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on league-foe Skidmore College.

Union wasted little time jumping out in front of the Golden Knights, posting a 14-2 advantage in the first few minutes. Clarkson struggled from the floor, but was able to get back into the game with free throws, cutting Union’s lead to eight at 24-16. However, the Dutchmen dominated the boards, limiting Clarkson’s second chance opportunities, out rebounding the Knights 24-7 in the half.

The second half was more of the same for Union as they coasted to the win without ever having their lead drop below double digits. Erika Eisenhut scored a team-high 12 points for Union, which out rebounded Clarkson 43-22 for the game. Sarah Krammen finished with 10 points for the Dutchmen.

Fritjofson finished with a game-high 13 points, making 6 of her 8 free throw attempts. Sophomore forward Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) scored 11 points and added six rebounds for the Knights.

Senior guard Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME) had a streak of 36 consecutive games with at least one steal snapped. The last time Fernandez didn’t record a steal was against RIT on December 6, 2003.
