CLARKSON MEN OPEN SWIM SEASON with a WIN at SLU

Freshmen Corey VanWoert (Binghamton, NY) and Matt Ulsh (Rochester, MN) each won two individual events to help lead the Clarkson University Men’s Swim team to a 130-108 victory over North Country rival St. Lawrence University in Canton in the first meet of the year for each team on Friday evening. The Golden Knight Women fell to the Saints 130-70.
 
VanWoert took first in both the 50-free (23.21) and 100 Free (51.54), while Ulsh won the 200 IM (2:06.52) and 100 Butterfly (56.04). Sophomore Tom Manzo (Liverpool, NY) was the top swimmer in the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.75).
 
The Golden Knights also took the 200 Freestyle relay event with Manzo, freshmen Nolan Reeves (Baldwinsville, NY) and Steve Ritter (Johnson City, NY) and VanWoert combining for the winning time (1:35.27).
 
Sophomore Jacob Alstadt (Rhinebeck, NY) won the 3-meter diving (148).
 
Sarah Morris (Amherst, NY) started out her promising senior campaign by finishing first in the 200 IM (2:23.10) for the Clarkson women. Junior Anne Parken (Painted Post, NY) won the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.05). 
 
The Knights' 200 Freestyle Relay team of freshmen Kristen Larsen (Fort Edward, NY) and Robin Stone (Potsdam, NY), junior Emily MacWilliams (Watkins Glen, NY) and Morris also placed first (1:46.68).
