MICKALA HENSON NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

February 17, 2005

Sophomore forward Mickala Henson (Waverly, NY) of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team maintained a long tradition of excellence for the school's scholar athletes on Thursday as she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District 1 team.

Henson, who was named to the Academic All-America District 1 Second Team, has a grade-point average of 4.0 in aeronautical engineering and was the only sophomore selected to any of the three teams in District 1. In addition to her high standard in the classroom, Henson is averaging 8.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She leads the team in blocks this season with 16 and is second in the conference with a 74.4 free throw percentage.

Henson became the seventh women's basketball player at the institution to earn Academic All-America recognition since 1982. She is the 35th student-athlete overall at Clarkson to gain the citation and the second this academic year, along with the volleyball team's Suzanne Clarvoe.  The Golden Knights have enjoyed one of the best runs among all institutions in the Academic All-America awards, with at least one student-athlete gaining the accolade in 17 consecutive years.
