Potsdam, NY – Junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) was solid in goal with a 25-save effort and senior assistant captain Jay Latulippe (Saratoga Springs, NY) scored both goals for Clarkson University as the Golden Knights held off a late charge by Yale University to defeat the Bulldogs 2-1 before 2,029 fans in Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) action at Cheel Arena Friday night. Clarkson, which has won two straight, improved its record to 9-16-2 overall and to 5-9-1 in the ECACHL. Yale, which dropped its third consecutive game, falls to 3-18-1 overall and to 2-13 in the conference.
Clarkson opened the scoring early in the first period when Latulippe took a long pass off the boards from linemate, rookie right wing David Cayer (Longueuil, QUE) and got by the Yale defense to score at 2:52.
Latulippe made it 2-0 with his team-high 12th goal of the season, a 5-on-3 power-play tally, when he one-timed shot off a pass from sophomore defenseman Michael Grenzy (Lockport, NY) from the top of the right circle at 6:47 of the second period. Senior Chris Blight (Cambridge, ONT) also assisted.
Yale came out strong to start the final stanza, out shooting the Knights 11-0 in the opening eight minutes of the period. Matt Craig capped off the Bulldogs’ early third-period rally when he connected off a behind-the-net pass from Zach Mayer at 11:04. Joe Zappala also assisted. Yale, which out shot the Green and Gold 14-2 in the period, continued to pressure throughout the remainder of the third, but Traylen stood tall recording 13 stops over the final 20 minutes to help Clarkson snap a five-game ECACHL losing streak to Yale.

The Knights were 1-of-5 on the power play, while shutting down all five of the Bulldogs’ man-advantage opportunities.
Clarkson will host Princeton on Saturday in a 7:00 p.m. game at Cheel. The Tigers tied St. lawrence 4-4 in Canton on Friday.
