Potsdam, NY – Three different Golden Knights scored and junior Dustin Traylen (Kirkland, QUE) posted 26 saves as Clarkson University completed its first weekend sweep in Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) play since early January 2003 with a 3-1 victory over Princeton University before 2,274 fans at Cheel Arena Saturday night.
The Golden Knights, who defeated Yale 2-1 on Friday, have won three straight for their longest regular-season winning streak since posting four consecutive victories midway through the 2001-02 campaign. Clarkson, which ran its unbeaten streak over the Tigers to 16 consecutive games (14-0-2), owns a 10-16-2 overall record and a 6-9-1 ECACHL mark.
For just the second time this season, the Knights rallied for a win after their opponent scored first. With just 32 seconds left in the first, Princeton got on the scoreboard with the opening goal, a power-play tally, as defenseman Daryl Marcoux knocked in a bouncing puck in front off a shot by Sebastian Borza for his second goal of the season.
Clarkson tied it early in the second when freshman Mike Arciero (Avon, CT) recorded his second goal of the season connecting on a pass in front from senior assistant captain, defenseman Ken Scuderi (Bethpage, NY) at 2:41. Freshman Matt Isbister (Calgary, ALB) also assisted. At 15:30 of the middle frame, the Knights’ senior class combined for the winning goal as senior captain Mac Faulkner (King City, ONT) put the Green and Gold in front when he chipped in a pass from assistant captain Jay Latulippe (Saratoga Springs, NY) at the top of the crease for his ninth goal of the season. Classmate Chris Blight (Cambridge, MA) started the play with a pass out of the corner leading to the power-play goal.
Princeton (6-15-2, 4-11-1 ECACHL) pulled junior goaltender Eric Leroux (London, ONT) for the extra skater with one minute left to play in regulation, but Latulippe found the empty net with one second remaining for his team-high 13th goal of the year to sealed Clarkson’s ninth straight victory over the Tigers.
Both teams were 1-of-4 on the power play. Clarkson held a 35-27 shot advantage.
