LORENCE PICKS UP TWO MORE AWARDS, NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

May 12, 2005

Senior pitcher/outfielder JJ Lorence (Liverpool, NY) became the third Clarkson University athlete this year to be named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District I Team

Two other athletes were named to the Academic All-America District I teams this past year for Clarkson, including Suzanne Clarvoe of the volleyball team and Mickala Henson of the women's basketball team.

Lorence, who earned a 3.571 grade-point average in Business & Management, was named to the Academic All-America District I team as a pitcher, one of only two pitchers in the region. Lorence is 5-0 with a 1.29 ERA this year and has 30 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched. His ERA would rank eighth in the country, but he is one inning shy of the minimum qualifications for the NCAA.

He was also named ECAC Upstate Player of the Week because of his performance in the outfield. Lorence went 16-for-25 this past week, including a streak of 10 consecutive plate appearances in which he reached base. He had back to back 4-for-4 performances earlier in the week and raised his average to .343 for the season.
