Potsdam, NY - Sophomore Catie Reed (Lafayette, NY) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team picked up their fourth victory of the season with a 5-0 shutout over crosstown rival Potsdam State Tuesday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-4 overall on the year and have won three of their last four games, the first time the team has earned three victories over a four-game stretch since the opening of the 2001 season. Potsdam dropped to 0-5-2 on the campaign.

The Golden Knights dominated the game throughout, but could not put a goal on the scoreboard until late in the first half. Sophomore Emily Mahar (Baldwinsville, NY) scored her third goal of the season on a cross from Reed at 42:27. Mahar, at the 18-yard marker, did a quick move and sent a hard shot to the corner which Potsdam goalkeeper Molly Flynn was unable to handle.

Going in to the second half with just a 1-0 lead, the Knights were able to quickly build upon their advantage with a goal from Reed at the 51:04 mark. Freshman Ellie Wade (Litchfield, NH) and junior Jinna Stugart (Schenectady, NY) each earned assists as they sent quick passes over to Reed, who left-footed a shot to the far post. Just 10 minutes later, freshman Jessica Farsaci (Liverpool, NY) made the score 3-0 when she out ran the Bears' defense on a pass from Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY). Farsaci's goal, her second of the season, came just 20 seconds after she set foot on the field as a substitute.

Clarkson added two more goals in the final 17 minutes as Deana Huntley (Canton, NY) and Sue Dougherty (Middleville, NY) each scored their first collegiate goals.

Meagan Emlaw (Norwood, NY) picked up her second straight shutout and third whitewash of the season without having to make a save. Molly Flynn made 12 saves for Potsdam before leaving with an injury in the second half. Jess Arnold made three stops in the fina 13:24 for the Bears.

Clarkson out shot the Bears 31-1 and held a 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
