Potsdam, NY - Junior midfielder Greg Rogan scored an insurance goal and assisted on the game's first two goals as the Hamilton Continentals opened up Liberty League play with a 3-1 victory over the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-6-1 and 0-1 in conference play while Hamilton, ranked 21st in the country, improved to 5-0 and 1-0. Clarkson faces Hobart College on Saturday afternoon.

An evenly played first half saw the Continentals take a quick 2-0 lead over Clarkson. Senior Matt Clausen scored his first goal of the season when Rogan sharply passed a ball from 18 yards out. Clausen was just a few strides away from the net and was able to put Hamilton up 1-0 at the 5:05 mark. Hamilton scored six and a half minutes later at 11:45 when Ian Hildebrand blasted a shot into the lower left corner on a pass from Rogan.

The Golden Knights trailed by two for the next 25 minutes until freshman Kevin Martens (Salt Point, NY) picked up his second goal of the season. Junior Bryan Oakland (Bow, NH) sent a high cross in from the right side where Martens was waiting and his shot nestled in the net just inside the right post to close the gap to 2-1 at 35:35.

Hamilton picked up an extra goal midway through the second half when Rogan scored at the 67:10 mark with Chris Breedlove earning the assist.

Junior goalkeeper David Hennessey (Wading River, NY) made seven stops for Clarkson while Anthony Tripicchio remained undefeated in net with two saves.

The Continentals out shot Clarkson 13-9 with both halves being even (8-6 in the opening 45 minutes, 5-3 in the closing 45). The Golden Knights were down 10-1 in corner kicks. Clarkson became just the second team in five games to score on Hamilton.
