Potsdam, NY - Heavy rain in pre-game turned to accumulating snow as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Rensselaer in a 70-minute game at SUNY Potsdam's Turf Field on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights moved to 5-8-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in the Liberty League while the Red Hawks pushed their record to 5--7-2 and 0-5-1 in conference. Friday's game was initially scheduled to be played at Clarkson Field, but the heavy rains throughout the week made the field muddy and unplayable, forcing the move to Potsdam's turf facility. Clarkson hosts Vassar College on Saturday with the site yet to be determined.
Quality scoring opportunities were rare as any time a team would gain an advantage, the inches of snow on the turf would intervene and slow down the play. Twenty-five minutes into the second half, the officials were satisfied that the game should not continue and the game was officially announced as a scoreless tie through 70 minutes.
Rensselaer out shot Clarkson 8-4, including a 7-1 advantage in the first half, but only one of those chances had much of a chance of going in. Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) stopped four shots for Clarkson to earn her fourth shutout of the season while Tara Marandino made two saves in her fifth shutout of the campaign.
