KNIGHTS SUPPLY SCARE AT UNION

February 11, 2006

Schenectady, NY - Though the final score was 68-52, the end result was not indicative of the performance by the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights put a scare into Union Saturday afternoon at Viniar Athletic Center.

The Golden Knights dropped to 5-18 overall and 1-11 in the Liberty League while Union improved its stock in the conference standings at 9-3 and 15-7 overall. Clarkson finishes out the schedule when it hosts William Smith and Hamilton next weekend.

Clarkson led by as many as nine points in the first half and held a two-point lead at the half as the team shot 57 percent from the floor (12-for-21). In the second half, the Golden Knights and Union battled back and forth through the first 10 minutes of the half, but Union finally started to use its superior size in the paint to get ahead of the Knights. Though leading by just four points with less than four minutes remaining, the Dutchmen shot 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the last two minutes to push its lead to the final margin of victory.

Senior guard Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) recorded her third 20-point game of the season, shooting 7-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line for 20 points in 40 minutes, playing the entire game for the seventh time in the last nine games. Vanessa Westcott (Parish, NY) contributed 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists before fouling out.

Selin Whitman recorded 16 points to lead Union's five players in double figures. Erika Eisenhut was the second-highest scorer for Union with 13 points while adding 9 steals.
