A hard fought effort by the Clarkson University Hockey team was not reflected on the scoreboard for the Golden Knights as they lost on the road 5-2 at Dartmouth College on Friday night in Hanover, NH.
Clarkson, which lost its 10th straight game on the road falls, to 16-14-3 overall and stands in eight place in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) with a 9-10-2 league mark. The Knights close out the regular season at Harvard on Saturday night.
Dartmouth (15-11-2, 13-6-2) opened the scoring just 1:42 into the first for the only scoring of the opening 20 minutes. Clarkson and the Big Green combined for three goals in a 68-second span early in the second for a 2-2 tie after two periods.
Junior Mike Sullivan (Stouffville, ONT) tallied his first goal in 10 games and 12th of the season when he scored just six seconds into a Clarkson power play at 8:01. Classmate Michael Grenzy (Lockport, NY) and sophomore Steve Zalewski (New Hartford, NY) assisted.
Dartmouth came back 33 seconds to regain the lead with David Jones’ first goal of the contest at 8:34, but freshman defenseman Philippe Paquet (Quebec City, QUE) tied it 2-2 with his second goal of the year, a shot from the top of the right circle. Senior assistant captain Jeff Genovy (Kalamazoo, MI) assisted.
The Big Green, however, pulled away with the victory tallying three unanswered goals in the third.
Making his fifth straight start, sophomore David Leggio (Williamsville, NY) posted 31 saves as the Knights were out shot 36-21. Clarkson was 1-of-5 on the power play, while the Big Green went 0-of-3 with the man advantage.
