SLOW START SETS BACK CLARKSON at UNION

A slow start on the road against a Liberty League powerhouse led to a 17-7 loss for the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team against Union College on Friday afternoon in Schenectady, NY.
 
The Golden Knights found themselves in a 10-goal deficit with just under 11 minutes to play in the first half before senior Lindsay Roberts (Averill Park, NY) tallied the Green and Gold’s first goal. The Dutchwomen (4-2, 3-0) extended their lead to 12-3 after the opening 30 minutes.
 
Junior Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) led Clarkson in scoring with two goals. Junior Alexis Miller (Vestal, NY), sophomore Rachel Kopels (Queensbury, NY) and freshmen Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) and Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) chipped in one goal each.
 
Union out shot the Knights 28-21 and controlled groundballs 34-15. Junior Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) played the first half in the Clarkson goal and made five saves on 17 shots. Freshman Amy Simpson (Braintree, VT) saw her first action of the season in goal and made three stops on eight shots in the second half for the Knights.
 
Clarkson (3-4, 0-3) will look for its first conference victory of the spring when it plays at Skidmore College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
