Potsdam, NY - A five-run rally in the sixth inning went for naught as Plattsburgh State came back for a 6-5 win over the Clarkson University Baseball team in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, going on to sweep the double dip with a 8-2 win in the nightcap.

The Golden Knights dropped to 13-13 on the season while Plattsburgh State improved to 18-11 overall. Clarkson ends its run with SUNYAC teams on Wednesday when it plays Oswego State in Watertown.

The Cardinals scored twice in the second, once in the fourth and two more times in the fifth inning before Clarkson came up with five runs in the sixth inning. The Golden Knights had recorded just one hit through the first five innings before coming back with the five-spot in the bottom of the sixth. Zach Richardson (Parishville, NY) came up with a two-out, two-run double to tie the score 5-5. A run-scoring single by Plattsburgh's Kyle Kowalowski in the top of the seventh inning lifted the Cardinals to the victory, plating Zach Welch, who reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

Matt Dahlin earned his fifth win of the season for Plattsburgh, striking out five over six innings. Billy Davis came on for the save for the Cardinals. Clarkson's Kevin Hickey (Clifton Park, NY) was saddled with the loss. Todd Hughes went 3-for-4 to lead Plattsburgh while Kowalowski and Paul Strang each went 2-for-4 and Jared Jarvis went 2-for-3.

In game two, the Knights got on top with a run in the second inning, but the Cardinals tied the game in the fourth and added two more in the fifth inning. Plattsburgh took advantage of four Clarkson miscues in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five times to put the game out of reach. Kowalowski was 2-for-3 in the second came as was third baseman John Coleman. Ryan Glavin (Syracuse, NY), Matt Giordano (Liverpool, NY), and Mickey Booth (Minisink, NY) each went 2-for-3 for the Golden Knights in the nightcap.

Kerry Mohrien picked up his first win of the season while Rick Bittner (Lancaster, NY) took the loss for Clarkson.
