Senior Brian Hanlon (Marcellus, NY) recorded his second seven-goal game of the season and added two assists as the Clarkson University Lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak and kept its hopes alive for a berth in the upcoming Liberty League playoffs by defeating conference foe Union College 16-9 in Schenectady on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights own a 4-9 overall record and stand in fifth place in the Liberty League with a 2-3 conference mark. Clarkson hosts defending Liberty League champion Skidmore in the final game of the regular season on Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. game at Hantz Field. The top four teams in the league advance to the Liberty League playoffs.

Clarkson scored on its first six shots on goal en route to a 7-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. The Knight traded four goals with the Dutchmen in the second quarter to hold an 11-4 lead at the half.

Hanlon and freshman Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) each scored two goals during Clarkson’s opening run. Union got to within 9-4 late in the second quarter, but that would be as close as the Dutchmen (4-8, 2-2) would get as the Green and Gold scored the next three goals to pull away. Freshman Kyle Alexander’s (Clifton Park, NY) first goal of the season at 5:07 of the third quarter made it 12-4.

Coming off a career-high 20-save outing in Wednesday’s game at St. Lawrence, sophomore goaltender Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY) posted another strong effort in the Clarkson crease, making nine saves on 18 shots for his second win of the season.

Gibbons finished with six points, including three goals. Bryan Johnson (Newark, NY) tallied two goals. Freshmen Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY), Cory Schneider (Yorktown, NY) and Erik Hilfinger (Ann Arbor, MI) also scored in the victory.
