Knights Fall to Skidmore In Overtime, 2-1

Saratoga Springs, NY - Four minutes, 50 seconds remained in the second half when freshman Courtney Donovan (South Hero, VT) tallied her third goal of the season to tie the game for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team, but the Golden Knights could not hold on for the tie when they game went into overtime as 22nd-ranked Skidmore College picked up a 2-1 win in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped their second straight Liberty League contest to fall to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference. Skidmore improved to 4-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in league. Clarkson faces North Country rival St. Lawrence at home on Thursday.

The Thoroughbreds opened the scoring on a direct kick from 35 yards out at 25:52 when Jessica Morten sent the booming kick on net. Clarkson goalkeeper Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) got her hands on the ball but could not control it as it rolled into the net.

With less than five minutes remaining, Catie Reed (Lafayette, NY) sent a strong kick on net, which was initially stopped by Skidmore goalkeeper Liza Mills, but Donovan was there for the rebound and tied the game at 1-1.

The game-winner for Skidmore was similar to the opening score as Morten drove home a direct kick from 25 yards out just 4:35 into the first overtime session.

Emlaw finished with five saves for Clarkson and Mills came up with seven stops for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds owned a 20-10 advantage in shots and a 9-0 tally in their favor in corner kicks, but Clarkson actually owned an edge in shots on goal, 8-7.
