Lakers Score Off Corner to Beat Clarkson, 1-0

October 24, 2007

Potsdam, NY - Despite possessing an advantage in shots, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was unable to find the back of the net and its opponent, Oswego State, was able to get a late score for a 1-0 non-league victory Wednesday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-10-2 overall on the season while the Lakers moved to 6-10-1. Clarkson closes out the season on Saturday afternoon against St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.

Clarkson played a physical style early on and it seemed to unnerve the Lakers as the Knights possessed the ball for much of the first half, but could not get too many quality chances on goal. The second half was a much looser brand of soccer with the ball heading up and down the field on a number of occasions.

One of those chances finally ended in a score when the Lakers were awarded a corner kick with less than 20 minutes to play. The ball was sent sailing into the box and was booted around for several seconds by both teams before finally finding the foot of Megan Salada, who bounced a grounder into the side of the net for the game's only score.

Toby Klein finished with eight saves to record her fifth shutout of the season for the Lakers. Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) made three saves. Clarkson had 15 shots to Oswego's nine and the two teams were tied in corner kicks at three apiece.
