Princeton jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in handing the Clarkson University Hockey team a 7-1 loss on Friday in ECAC Hockey League action at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, NJ. The Golden Knights, who will finish in second place in the conference, close out the regular season against Quinnipiac on Saturday in Hamden, CT. Saturday’s game is an 8:00 p.m. start and will be broadcast live on ESPNU-TV.
Clarkson, which entered the weekend ranked 6th in the country, owns a 20-8-5 overall record and a 12-5-4 ECACHL mark.
Princeton scored its first goal at 7:08 of the first and led 4-0 after the opening 20 minutes. The Tigers scored again early in the middle fame before sophomore Chris D’Alvise (Mississauga, ONT) put Clarkson on the scoreboard late in the second. D’Alvise tallied his 14th goal of the year, a power-play goal, during a scramble in front at 17:51. Senior Mike Sullivan (Stouffville, ONT) and freshman Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) assisted.
Princeton closed out Clarkson’s worst league loss of the year with two third-period goals.
The Tigers out shot the Green and Gold 39-31. Junior David Leggio (Williamsville, NY) started the game and made nine first-period stops. Senior Kyle McNulty (Wakefield, RI) played the final two periods in the Clarkson goal and posted 23 saves.
The Knights were 1-of-8 on the power play, while Princeton was 3-of-8 with the man-advantage.
