Potsdam, NY - With a run of eight unanswered goals to start the second half, Union distanced itself from the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team on the scoreboard and cruised to a 19-6 Liberty League conference victory over the Golden Knights Saturday afternoon at Potsdam State's Turf Field.
The Golden Knights three-game winning streak came to an end as the team fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Union improved to 2-1 and 2-0.
Senior Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) opened the scoring at 5:38 for the Knights, but Union answered right back en route to a six-goal run that gave the Dutchwomen a solid advantage heading into halftime. Scoring the final goal of the first half with less than four minutes remaining gave Union a 7-2 lead, an advantage that would be extended to 15-2 before Clarkson could finally end the barrage with a free-position shot goal 13 minutes into the second half. From that point on, the Knights could do little to get back into the game and the Dutchwomen finished the contest with a 13-goal cushion.
Nine different players recorded at least one goal for Union, led by Stephanie Cronan and Keri Messa, who each recorded four scores. Allie Toney added three goals while Kellin Skurek and Allie Cuozzo each tallied two goals.
Clarkson sophomores Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) and Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) each scored twice for Clarkson while Grigg and Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) accounted for one goal apiece.
Melissa McDonald and Stephanie Burlton combined for six saves for the Dutchwomen while Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) made 14 saves for the Knights, facing 39 shots in the contest.
