Troy, NY - Sophomore Amanda Nicklin and freshman Tracy Breslin each tallied a goal for the Rensselaer Red Hawks as the hosts ended a two-game unbeaten streak by the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team, 2-0, in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights fell to 1-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference while Rensselaer moved to 4-3-1 and 1-1-0. Clarkson hosts St. Lawrence at 4:00 pm on Thurdsay, September 27th.
Nicklin gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead in the opening half with her second goal in as many days. On a cross from midfielder Heather Lautman, Nicklin volleyed the ball up over the goalkeeper's head into the top right corner for the goal in the 23rd minute. Rensselaer scored again late in the second half to ice the game when Breslin headed the ball in at the 73:19 mark on a cross from Nicklin.
Meghan White made four saves for the shutout for Rensselaer and Clarkson keeper Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) denied four shots. Rensselaer possessed small advantages in shots (11-7) and in corners (5-4).
