Sophomore Scott Desmond of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and junior Christie Knapp of the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District I teams.
Historically, Clarkson University student-athletes have faired very well in the Academic All-American selections. Last year, David Jette was selected from the men's soccer team, but Knapp is the first women's soccer player selected since Jen Bashant in 2000.
Desmond, who was picked for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District I Second-Team, is an Interdisciplinary Engineering and Management major. This season he is the team's leading scorer with six goals and three assists for 15 points, ranking among the conference leaders in goals and points. A sophomore striker, he was chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2007 and is a strong contender for post-season accolades in 2008.
Knapp, who was chosen as an ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America District I Third-Team member, also majors in Interdisciplinary Engineering and Management at Clarkson. The junior defender scored her first career goal in 2008, and has one of the highest grade-point averages among all student-athletes at the University.
