Four different Golden Knights scored in the season-opener for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team on Saturday in Sanford, FL, but it wasn’t enough as the Green and Gold fell to third-ranked Cortland State 12-4.
Junior captain Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) led the way with one goal and one assist. Juniors Tom Ross (Adams, NY) and Cory Schneider (Yorktown, NY) and freshman Josh Flacke (Schenectady, NY) tallied one goal each.
Brian Krol scored four goals to pace the Red Dragons (3-0).
Senior goaltender Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY) made 24 saves for Clarkson.
Cortland led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter and 5-0 at the half. The Red Dragons pushed their lead to 8-1 after the third quarter and outscored the Golden Knights, 4-3, in the fourth quarter for the eight-goal margin of victory.
Clarkson plays Bowdoin on Wednesday in the second game of its Florida spring-break trip.
