Potsdam, NY - Junior Matt Holiday (Syracuse, NY) hit a seventh-inning grand slam and drove in two more runs as the Clarkson University Baseball team soundly defeated Plattsburgh State, 18-2, Tuesday afternoon at Snell Field.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 13-13 overall and will face Ithaca College at 4:00 pm in Watertown on Wednesday before embarking on a two-day road trip in Saratoga on Friday and Saturday. The Cardinals fell to 11-16 on the season.

Plattsburgh rested a few of its starting position players in the midweek game, and the Golden Knights took advantage of the less potent lineup, allowing only seven hits among four pitchers. Freshman David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY) logged the win via the pre-determined start rule, pitching the opening three innings and allowing three hits and just a single run. Freshman Kyle Moldoff (Nassau, NY) threw the next four innings, allowing a single run on three hits, while classmates Jordan LaClair (Morristown, NY) and Alex Giovannone (New Hartford, NY) each pitched a scoreless frame for the Knights.

Offensively, the Knights went threw six Plattsburgh hurlers, going 18-for-42 at the plate in total. Holiday was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and six driven in, hitting his sixth home run and driving in his 35th of the season. He became only the third Clarkson player to hit six home runs in a season in the past 30 years, and his 35 runs batted in make him only the sixth player to reach that plateau in the same time frame.

Besides Holiday's impressive day, Matt Giordano (Liverpool, NY) continued his recent hot streak by going 4-for-6 with three runs scored, moving him to 10 for his last 14. Matt Curry (Richland, NY) went 3-for-5 with three runs and Sean Griffin (Walden, NY) drove in three runs in the first inning on a bases-clearing double.
