Senior swimmer Kristen Larsen (Fort Edward, NY) became the latest Clarkson University student-athlete to be recognized for her efforts both in athletic competition and in the classroom when she was selected as an ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-American, making the District 1 College Women’s At-Large First-Team.
Larsen, who majored in Biomolecular Science with a Pre-Physical Therapy concentration, was a standout performer for the Golden Knights Swim team, setting several Clarkson records this winter. She broke school marks in the 100-meter (1:11.16) and 200-meter (2:37.52) breast stroke events at the NYSWCAA meet in February. Larsen was chosen as Clarkson’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Larsen is the first Clarkson swimmer to be named as a District Academic All-American, and is now eligible for selection as a National Academic All-American.
The At-Large program includes student-athletes in those sports that do not have their own program in the Academic All-America program. Schools are limited to three nominees, each of whom must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, be a starter or important reserve, and must have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the institution. District 1 of the College Division includes all Division III schools in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec.
