Troy, NY - Junior Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team couldn't keep pace with Rensselaer in the second half as the Golden Knights dropped a 72-55 Liberty League decision Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights ended a five-game road trip with a 6-10 overall record and a 1-4 record in the Liberty League, and will return to Potsdam for five straight home games starting next weekend against William Smith. Rensselaer moved to 12-3 and 4-1.
Though the Knights fell behind early, the team never totally succumbed to Rensselaer. Leading by just a single point, 20-19, late in the first half, the Red Hawks used a 6-0 run in the final moments to build a 36-25 edge at intermission. Even in the second half, Clarkson maintained a striking distance against Rensselaer, trailing by seven, 46-39, midway through the half. However, Clarkson's offense went cold and the Red Hawks were able to push their lead into double figures, settling at a near game-high advantage of 17 points.
Reddinger led the Knights with 14 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) continued a solid week with 11 points and five rebounds. Classmate Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) contributed 10 more points for Clarkson.
Leading the way for Rensselaer was Sarah Wetmore, who had 20 points and eight rebounds. Whitney Coleman added 19 points and six assists, while Elizabeth Barker controlled the glass with eight points and 14 rebounds.
