Albany, NY - Benefiting from an own goal by its opponent, the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team was able to halt a six-game losing skid by gaining a 1-1 tie at The Sage Colleges on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Knights moved to 2-7-1 overall and will host Hamilton College at 4:00 pm next Friday.
After a 0-0 first half, Sage would score in the opening minutes of the second half as Rebecca Marszalek converted a feed at 48:08.
The Golden Knights would earn the tie as they capitalized on a defensive error by Sage that allowed for an own goal at 73:07.
The two teams would fail to score in the remainder of regulation and in two 10-minute overtimes, resulting in the draw. Clarkson's senior back Brittany Monroe (Massena, NY) made a game-saving defensive stop after junior keeper Stephanie Collins (Colton, NY) went down on a play, as Monroe slid over to prevent the Gators from scoring on an open net. Collins finished with three saves.
Clarkson owned a 7-3 edge in corner kicks and a nearly unfathomable lead in shots at 42-8, including a 27-4 advantage in shots on goal.
