Second Chances Give Mary Washington Edge in 67-47 Win Over Clarkson

Goldberg becomes fourth Clarkson player with 100 career 3-pointers

Daytona Beach, FL - A solid showing from the perimeter couldn't make up for the struggles in the paint for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team on Tuesday, as Mary Washington more than doubled the Golden Knights rebounding efforts in a 67-47 loss for the Green and Gold in the Land of Magic Classic at the ICI Center.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-4 overall on the season, ending a three-game winning streak. Mary Washington improved to 6-2 on the season. Clarkson closes out its Florida trip at 10:00 am tomorrow against Penn State-Behrend.

Junior Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) kept the Golden Knights close in the first half with several 3-point field goals, but overall Clarkson couldn't keep pace with Mary Washington as the Eagles lanky frontcourt controlled the paint. Mary Washington held a 51-24 edge in rebounds in the contest and held Clarkson to just 9-for-39 shooting from inside the 3-point arc. Conversely, the Knights shot well from the perimeter, going 6-for-12 from long range.

When she sunk her third 3-point field goal in the first half, Goldberg became just the fourth player in Clarkson history to make 100 career 3-pointers, joining Colleen Peck (148), Bridget Sweeney (127), and Linda Bondellio (100).

Goldberg finished with a team-high 15 points, going 5-for-8 from 3-point range. Sophomore Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) added in 14 points, shooting 4-for-9 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free throw line. Jenna McRae and Katie Wimmer each scored 17 points to lead the Eagles.
