Winter Park, CO - Freshman JP Phaneuf (Montreal, QUE) appeared ready to challenge for All-American honors on the second day of the USCSA National Championships, but a mild slow down in the second run pushed him to 19th-place overall in the giant slalom Thursday in Colorado.
The Golden Knights finished ninth among 20 teams, trailing the top three of Sierra-Nevada College, Westminster College, and Colby Sawyer along with five others.
Phaneuf's time of 2:03.00 through two runs was good enough for 19th place after he finished 12th in the initial run. Junior Drew Bonner (Killington, VT) was next for the Knights with a time of 2:08.03 to place 36th overall among the 109 skiers. Sophomore Ben Cohen (Old Forge, NY) came in 47th in 2:10.92 while freshman Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (Ste-Adele, QUE) was 52nd. Freshman Mac Connolly (Ellicottville, NY) performed well to start, but was unable to finish his second run.
