Senior golfer Ryan Swanson (Rochester, NY) became the latest Clarkson University student-athlete to be recognized for efforts both in athletic competition and in the classroom when he was selected as an ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-American, making the District 1 College Men’s At-Large First-Team.
Swanson, who majored in Electrical Engineering, was a standout performer for the Golden Knights Golf team, earning first-team Liberty League All-Star honors, finishing fourth at the conference championships. He averaged 75.9 strokes per 18 holes, and shot 80 or lower in seven of nine rounds. Swanson has been honored the past two year’s as Clarkson’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Swanson is the first Clarkson golfer to be named as a District Academic All-American, and is now eligible for selection as a National Academic All-American.
The At-Large program includes student-athletes in those sports that do not have their own program in the Academic All-America program. Schools are limited to three nominees, each of whom must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, be a starter or important reserve, and must have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the institution.
