Steinrotter to Take Over SLU Alpine Skiing, Departs as Winningest Men's Soccer Coach in Clarkson History

May 28, 2009

Winner of 131 games in a 19-year career at the helm of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer program, long time head coach Willi Steinrotter has accepted the position of head Alpine Skiing coach at St. Lawrence University.

Steinrotter, who served in a dual role for the Clarkson Athletic Department as the head coach of both the men's soccer and alpine ski programs, will take on his duties at St. Lawrence in the coming weeks. A national search for a replacement for both men's soccer and alpine coaching duties will begin shortly.

In his career as coach for men's soccer, Steinrotter guided the Golden Knights to two NCAA appearances and five post-season appearances overall.  He had six 10-plus win seasons and led the Knights to the NCAA Final Four in 1993. Additionally, he coached four All-Americans (Larry Martin, Mike Kirmse, Mike Secko, and Matt Secko).

As the head coach for alpine skiing, Steinrotter led the men's team to the USCSA National Championships 12 times and the women's team joined the men on two occasions. Five skiers gained All-American status under Steinrotter's tutelage (Mikkel Forsthuber, Brian Welch, Kurt Naser, JP Phaneuf, and Cedrik Proteau-Dubois).
