Plattsburgh, NY - A pair of scores from Helen Giroux led Plattsburgh State to a 4-0 non-league win over the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team Wednesday night.
The Golden Knights saw their record evened at 2-2 while the Cardinals remained unbeaten at 5-0. Clarkson will return to action this weekend when they continue the non-league schedule, hosting both Elmira College and RIT on Saturday and Sunday.
While neither team had many chances on goal in the first half, Plattsburgh came away with a score late in the half. Giroux took a pass from Megan Rivage on a break away and scored on a low shot into the left corner for a 1-0 lead at 33:11.
In the second half, the Golden Knights had a bit of bad luck when they allowed an own goal at 58:52. Plattsburgh scored a pair of insurance goals late in the half when Giroux scored on a penalty kick at 76:36 and then Ashley McKennelley scored at 82:46 to round out the scoring.
Clarkson trailed in shots (13-1) and corner kicks (5-1) in the contest. Alex Sullivan (Copenhagen, NY) made five saves for the Golden Knights, while Alina Greiser made one stop for Plattsburgh.
