Canton, NY - Junior Mark Secko (Shoreham, NY) provided all of the scoring that the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team would need in the opening 10 minutes of the contest on Saturday afternoon, but the Golden Knights could have used a bit more as they hung on for a 1-0 victory over Potsdam State in the annual LOTTO Classic at Sandy MacAllaster Field on the campus of St. Lawrence.
The Golden Knights improved to 2-0 overall and will face Keene State College at 12:00 noon on Sunday afternoon. Potsdam dropped to 0-2 and will take on St. Lawrence.
Though the Knights dominated play in the first half with a 9-0 edge in shots, only Secko's shot found its way into the back of the net. The junior transfer from Stony Brook took a right-footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box, went to the far side, and was able to sneak his shot over the outreached hands of Potsdam goalkeeper Joe Glacton.
With Secko's goal at 9:40, it appeared as if the Knights would continue their offensive barrage that started against Paul Smiths on Tuesday, but the goal would be the only one that Clarkson could muster. The Green and Gold finished with a 17-7 edge in shots, but trailed 4-2 in corners.
Freshman goalkeeper Adam Lamoureux (Falmouth, ME) picked up his first collegiate shutout, making three stops in the victory. Glacton made four saves for the Bears.
