Potsdam, NY – An early goal by Norwich University stood up as the game-winner, as the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team, despite doubling up the Cadets in shots, fell 1-0 in the second round of the North Country Classic Sunday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights had their record evened at 1-1-0 and will next host Hilbert College at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Norwich moved to 1-1-0 with the victory, recovering from a loss against St. Lawrence on Saturday.

The Cadets scored on their second shot of the game, early in the first half. Megan Gingras sent a simple cross through the box and the ball bounded through, finding the foot of Sarah Reuschel, who deposited the ball just inside the far post beyond the reach of Clarkson keeper Alex Sullivan (Copenhagen, NY).

In the second half, the Knights had 10 shots, seven of which were on goal, but none of the chances proved to be dangerous enough to tie the game up. In the final seconds, the Knights were able to send another shot on goal, but it one-hopped into the center of the goal where Norwich goalkeeper Alecia Wright was standing to make another save.

Wright finished with 11 saves for the Cadets, while Alex Sullivan had two saves in the contest. Clarkson finished with a 16-8 edge in shots (11-3 lead in shots on goal). The two teams each had just a single corner kick opportunity.

The All-Tournament Team consisted of 13 players, including five from St. Lawrence (Katherine Polido, Stephanie Sayward, Rachelle Doucette, Marcelle Justison, and Abby Van Geldern), three from Clarkson (Alix Petitti, Ellen Heenan, and Andrea Walsh), three from Norwich (Sara Reuschel, Nicki Hunsicker, and Alecia Wright), and three from Castleton State (Courtney Chadburn, Carisa Chadburn, and Maria Arnot).
