Clarkson Adds Skip Fox As Alpine Ski Coach and Outdoor Recreation Director

Fox won national championship for UMass in 2008

The Clarkson University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Austin “Skip” Fox as the new Alpine Skiing head coach for the 2009-10 season. Fox will also serve as the department’s head of outdoor recreation.

Fox, who previously resided in Dorset, VT, is a graduate of Johnson State College where he received a degree in Business Management. Prior to his new position at Clarkson, Fox won a USCSA National Championship in 2008 with the University of Massachusetts. He served as the head coach for the program from 2006 to 2009.

“I am excited about the opportunity at Clarkson,” Fox said. “I look forward to working with these young women and men. There is a lot of talent here and we’re looking forward to a productive season.”

“We are so pleased to have someone with Skip’s wealth of experience to guide our men’s and women’s Alpine Ski team, and to bring a new perspective to our outdoor recreation program,” Clarkson Athletic Director Steve Yianoukos said.

Outside of his USCSA National Championship (Men’s Team) for UMass, Fox has extensive coaching and administrative experience. He was the head coach and program director for the Mount Ashland Racing Association from 2004 to 2006, spent 11 years with the Stratton Training Center, and also founded Fox Ski Camps in Mount Hood, OR back in 1997, an organization that develops young athletes in ski racing. Additionally, he has been a guest coach for the 2006 US Ski Team Women’s World Cup Speed Team (Pitzal, Austria), the 2005 Europa Cup Team Fall Camp (Beaver Creek, CO), and at the 2003-04 Europa Cup Team Summer Camp (Timberline, Mt. Hood, OR). He was an avid ski racer from 1969 to 1978, racing at Johnston State College, the Stratton Mountain School, The Vermont Academy, and the Rumsey Hall School team.
