Ranked third in the country in the national polls and sitting atop the ECAC Hockey standings with the best winning percentage (.864%) in the conference, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team enters the stretch run this weekend with a pair of league games in New England. Guided by second-year co-head coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, the Golden Knights close out a six-game road trip, playing at Yale on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and at Brown on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

After closing out the non-league portion of the schedule at #1-ranked Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA last weekend, Clarkson will look to secure its position as the best team in ECAC Hockey. The Green and Gold, who own a 9-1-1 conference mark, are currently tied with Cornell for first place in the 12-team league but have a game in hand on the Big Red. Led by senior captain Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) and senior assistant captain Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT), the Knights stand at 15-5-3 overall.

This past weekend at top-ranked Mercyhurst, Clarkson battled the Lakers in two high-scoring affairs. The Knights lost the Friday night game, 6-3, but came back on Saturday afternoon to gain a 5-5 tie.

Dominique Thibault
(L’Orignal, ONT), who paced Clarkson’s offense at Mercyhurst, recording two goals and three assists over the weekend, leads the Knights in scoring for the season. Through 23 games, the senior transfer from the University of Connecticut has accumulated 28 points on a team-high 14 goals, and 14 assists.

Four other Golden Knights are recording double figures in the points column. Clarkson’s all-time leading scorer, Selina has tallied 24 points, including a team-high 16 assists. Selina has amassed 136 career points on 48 goals and 88 assists through 131 games. Junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) has 21 points (12-9) and leads the team in power-play markers with six. Sophomore standout Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) also chips in 21 points (11-10). Eusepi powers the offense from the blueline with 11 points (3-8).

Junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) backbones one of the nation’s stingiest defensive units. She has played every minute in the Green and Gold crease and backbones the solid effort. She holds a .934 save percentage (8th best in the nation), a 2.78 goals against average (6th) and is tied for second in the national lead in shutouts (5).

After this weekend’s games, Clarkson returns to the North Country, playing four of its next five games at Cheel Arena. The Knights close out January by hosting Colgate and Cornell, and then open February with a game at archrival St. Lawrence on Tuesday, February 2.

Yale is playing some of its best hockey of the season and is currently on a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) and is 3-1-1 over it last five games. The Bulldogs own a 6-10-3 overall record and are in a three-way tie for eighth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 4-7-1 league mark. Yale swept Union (3-0) and Rensselaer (4-3) in New Haven, CT last weekend. The Bulldogs are 4-6 at Ingalls Rink this season.

After opening the New Year with a win over Vermont (2-0) and tie at Boston University (5-5), Brown was shutout last weekend at home, losing to Rensselaer (2-0) and Union (3-0) in Providence. The Bears take a 2-12-4 overall record into Friday’s game against St. Lawrence. Brown is tied for 11th in the conference with a 0-9-3 league mark. Brown is 1-8-1 at Meehan Auditorium this season.
