With his first basket of Saturday’s game against Hamilton College, senior forward Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) became just the 16th player to record 1,000 career points in his collegiate career for the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball, a program that has existed for over 100 years.
Pickering was sidelined with injuries in 2005-06, allowing him to compete as a fifth-year senior this season. In his first healthy collegiate season, Pickering scored 210 points (8.8 ppg). During the 2007-08 season, a campaign in which Pickering helped lead the Golden Knights to their first-ever NCAA appearance, the forward averaged 13.3 ppg (333 points) and was named a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star. Last season, he scored 212 points (8.8 ppg) to move his career total to 755 points through 77 games.
Averaging 11.0 points per contest through 22 games this year, Pickering finished with 14 points against Hobart College on Friday, leaving him just two points away from four figures. With 8:59 remaining in the first half against Hamilton, Pickering converted a layup for his first two points of the contest.
The last Clarkson player to score 1,000 points in his career was Josh Harner ’04. Pickering also became just the fourth player in the last decade to reach 1,000 points for the Golden Knights.
