Strong performances by the Golden Knight Men and Women led the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team to the top showing at the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Divisional at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, VT over the weekend.
Sophomore Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) and graduate student Matt Delaney (Lake Placid, NY) earned first-place finishes for the Clarkson men, who won both the 15k classic and 7.5k freestyle races.
Freshman Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) and sophomore Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) paced the Golden Knight women, who also won both the 15k classic and 7.5k freestyle events.
Benway led the way in Saturday’s 15k race with a first-place time of 45:52. Senior Chris Lamothe (Colchester, VT) finished second (47:19) and freshman Dan Stevens (Glenville, NY) placed fourth (48:30).
In Sunday’s 7.5k men’s race, Delaney took the top spot with a time of 19:44. Benway was right behind in second (19:49), followed by senior Chris Lamothe (Colchester, VT) in fifth (20:27).
In the women’s 15k race on Saturday, Bachman, Dausman and Emily Garrant (Marcellus, NY) finished third (100:02), fifth (104:35) and sixth (104:51), respectively.
Dausman was Clarkson’s leading racer in the 7.5k event with a second-place time of 25:53. Sophomore Andrea Walsh (Underhill Center, VT) came in third (26:09) and Bachman finished fifth (26:12).
The Knights are in action this Saturday and Sunday ay Waterville Valley, NH for the USCSA Eastern Regional.
