A four-game winning streak came to an end for the third-ranked Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team on Tuesday night as the Golden Knights fell to archrival St. Lawrence 4-2 in ECAC Hockey action before 743 fans at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY.
Clarkson, which stands at 19-6-3 overall and 13-2-2 in ECAC Hockey, returns to action this weekend when it hosts Rensselaer and Union at Cheel Arena.

Looking for its first ever win at Appleton, the Knights started out slow against St. Lawrence and fell behind 3-0 15 minutes into contest. Brooke Fernandez put the home team on top, connecting on the first power-play of the game at 7:23 by pushing in a redirection. Alley Bero made it 2-0 knocking in a rebound at 13:35. Just 73 seconds later, Jamie Goldsmith tipped in a shot from the bottom of the circle to give the Saints a three-goal advantage.
With 43 seconds remaining in the first, junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) knocked in a rebound of off senior Dominique Thibault’s (L’Orignal, ONT) shot while on the power play to put the Knights on the scoreboard. Sophomore Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) also assisted on Waldie’s 13th goal of the season and team-high seventh power-play marker, which ended a 0-for-10 drought for Clarkson with the man-advantage.

The Knights with a pair of power-play opportunities, had two excellent opportunities in the middle frame to cut into the St. Lawrence lead, but could not convert.
At 5:41 of the third, Kayla Sullivan made it 4-1 for the Saints as she knocked in a rebound.
Clarkson pressured until the end and finally got back on the scoreboard with Baribeau’s 15th goal of the year with 63 seconds remaining. Junior Courtney Olson (Brunswick, GA) set up the goal with a long outlet pass.

Time, however, ran out for the Knights who suffered only their second loss in ECAC Hockey play this season.
Clarkson out shot St. Lawrence 31-26. Freshman Kelsey Neumann (China Grove, NC), who was seeing her first collegiate action, played a solid game in the Knights’ goal with a 22-save effort. Neumann replaced junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY), who was out of the lineup due to illness.
Both teams were 1-of-3 on the power play.
