Junior Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) scored four goals, but the Clarkson University Lacrosse team could not recover from a sluggish second-quarter as St. John Fisher defeated the Golden Knights 12-8 in Rochester on Saturday afternoon.
Tied 3-3 after the opening 15 minutes, St. John Fisher (4-0) built an 8-3 lead at the half with a five-goal spurt in the second quarter.
The teams traded three goals apiece in the third quarter, while Clarkson held a 2-to-1 edge on the scoreboard in the final frame.
Freshman Matt McCabe (Syracuse, NY) scored twice for the Knights while sophomore Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) added single tallies for the Green and Gold.

The Cardinals held a 37-17 advantage in groundball and outshot the Knights 34-23. Freshman Kyle Hohmann (Rochester, NY) made 10 saves in the Clarkson goal. Hohmann and senior defenseman Evan Renwick (Wappingers Falls, NY) both picked up a team-high three groundballs for the Knights.
Clarkson, at 0-3, will look for its first win of the season when it hosts Connecticut College on Wednesday at 12 noon on Hantz Turf Field.
