Knights Suffer Loss at Union

With a chance to move up in the Liberty League standings, the Clarkson University Lacrosse team struggled on the road against conference power Union College, falling to the Dutchmen 16-2 on Saturday afternoon in Schenectady, NY.

Union (10-2, 3-1) dominated the game from the start jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and an 8-0 advantage after 30 minutes. The Dutchmen made it 12-0 midway through the third quarter before the Golden Knights got on the scoreboard late in the stanza with goals by junior Evan Miles (Onondaga, NY) and sophomore Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT). Union closed out the third with a 13-2 lead and outscored the Green and Gold 3-0 over the final 15 minutes.

Robert Young led a balanced Union attack with three goals.

The Dutchmen outshot Clarkson 48-19 and controlled ground balls 43-39.

Freshman Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) started in goal for the Knights and made six saves on 10 shots in the first quarter. Classmate Kyle Hohmann (Rochester, NY) played the next 20:25 and posted six saves on 13 shots. Sophomore Pat Sweeney (Canton, NY) made nine saves on 14 shots over the final 24:35 in the Clarkson goal.

Sophomore Corey Flanigan (Rochester, NY) picked up a team-high six ground balls for the Knights.

Clarkson stands at 3-11 overall and 2-3 in the Liberty League. The Knights host Skidmore College on Saturday, May 1 in the final game of the regular season, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hantz Turf Field.
