Coleman Stars in ABCCL

Sporting a .353 batting average, rising junior Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) of the Clarkson University Baseball team ranked among the league leaders this summer in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) and is gaining more and more recognition from professional area scouts.

Coleman, who played for the Ocean Sports Academy Marlins in the eight-team ABCCL, ranked 12th in the league in batting among players with at least 60 at bats and also posted a .438 on-base percentage and .456 slugging percentage through the first 22 games of the season. He added in 16 runs and 13 RBI with five extra-base hits.

The ABCCL is one of numerous collegiate summer leagues that offers players an opportunity to play against tougher competition in front of scouts using wooden bats as opposed to aluminum bats, which are widely used in the collegiate ranks. Coleman's performance in the league solidified his standing with several scouts, and he has been invited to participate in several tryout camps in the coming weeks in New Jersey for scouts to get an early look at candidates for the 2011 MLB First-Year Player (Rule 4) Draft.
