Shannon Desrosiers Among the Elite at Ironman Canada

Next Up - Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii

Shannon Desrosiers was the top amateur female competitor at Ironman Canada, finishing the grueling event in less than 10 hours.
It was a busy and highly successful summer in endurance competition for Clarkson University Women’s co-Head Hockey Coach Shannon Desrosiers. An emerging standout in Ironman events, Desrosiers was the top female participant in her age category (25-29) in three races held this July and August. Highlighting her summer was an exceptional showing in Ironman Canada on August 29 in Penticton, British Columbia.

Desrosiers joined an elite group at Ironman Canada as the top amateur female competitor and ninth female overall to finish the grueling event in less than 10 hours. She placed 95th overall out of a challenging field of 2,731 participants with a time of 9:59:44 (2.4 mile-swim 1:01:37, 112 mile-bike 5:32:11, 26.2 mile-run 3:19:47).

Because of her strong showing at Ironman Canada, Desrosiers qualified for the prestigious Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. She has qualified for this race the last three years, but this will be Desrosiers first time participating in the event, which will be held on October 9.

Desrosiers prepped for Ironman Canada with a pair of first-place showings earlier in the summer. She competed in the Thousand Island Triathlon/Duathlon and Relay Olympic Triathlon in Brockville, Ontario on August 15, finishing as the top female (12th overall out of 126 participants) with a time of 2:19:56 (1500m-swim 28:01, 41.2km-bike 1:12:51, 10km-run 39:05).

Desrosiers was also the first female to cross the finish line in her age category at the Subaru Peterborough Half Iron Triathlon on July 4 in Ontario. Desrosiers place 28th overall out of 455 participants with a time of 4:44:56 (2km-swim 33:53, 90km-bike 2:39:23, 21.1km-run 1:28:39).
